SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGES
In the summer of 2013, I had the opportunity to volunteer with SOS Children's Villages in Nicaragua. It was a blessing to be able to spend time with these boys and girls. Each and every individual was warm and welcoming and treated us as guests in their own home.
I am grateful for the work that SOS Children's Villages does for orphaned and abandoned children, and I proudly support them in their commitment to work with local communities to meet the needs of families and children.
On a personal level, I am a strong advocate for equal opportunity. Without a shadow of doubt, education is a means to achieving independence and a platform for personal growth and development. I am honored that I was chosen, along with Miss Universe 2005 - Natalie Glebova, to inaugurate the computer centre. Internet use is ubiquitous for the more privileged in society. Not having access to the wealth of information on the internet and lack of online literacy can prove to be a major disadvantage. Fortunately, students can now earn credit towards higher education with these computers and also discover resources on the internet (under the careful eye of a supervisor).
